A Real Washington DC Wedding

Gabby and John had the quintessential Georgetown wedding. They had a Catholic ceremony at Holy Trinity, the church of JFK. And a little bit of rain couldn’t stop them from getting great photos with The Observatory at the OSS and on K Street. Their reception was at the Halcyon House, which closed for a while, but is back open now for limited, select events every year. They did some renovations of the artist’s loft and I cannot say that I am a fan.

This was one of the first candid photos taken of me as a wedding planner, and I still love it to this day.

John was crushing it as a new husband here. He is carrying the umbrella, the dress train and the bride’s bouquet. I regularly tell my grooms that they cannot have empty hands on the wedding day—they must be carrying something for the bride. (Assuming it is a couple comprised of a bride and a groom, of course.)

I do love a great umbreall photo with a bride and a groom. The key is to keep your feet flat and parallel to the ground.

Gabby’s father is a renowned artist, and he created this custom set of oil paintings that were installed in the Halcyon House studio, and then later given to  guests as the wedding favor. This is my favorite wedding favor of all time. There was one left over so I was able to take one home, and it is proudly displayed in my office. Part of what made is so great was the professional installation for the art pieces for the wedding reception.
