Edinburgh, Scotland Destination Wedding | Happy Anniversary!
Happy second anniversary to A & A! I loved being a part of this intimate destination wedding in Edinburgh, Scotland – on a Monday no less! That is one thing that is fun about destination weddings – you are less locked in to hosting your wedding on a Saturday night!
It was fun to learn about Scottish wedding traditions and also get to bring a few American traditions across the pond. The best part, though, was all the new friends I made while attending this awesome wedding!
There is often debate about whether to hire local wedding pros or to bring American wedding pros with you to your destination wedding. If you want to have a destination wedding that feels like or has a lot of elements of an American wedding, then you might consider bringing in American vendors like your planner and your photographer. These pros will be able to work on your behalf for the elements that you wish to be more Americanized at your destination wedding.
Bringing an American vendor abroad might not be as big of a splurge as you think. If you can find someone who is experienced locally but also looking to break into that destination market, you may be able to hire them for a steal.
On the other hand, if you want to fully immerse yourselves and your wedding guests in a local culture, hire local wedding pros. They will have contacts to other great local pros, and they can help you build an event that reflects the place you’ve chosen to marry.
The most common complaint I hear about working with locale pros is that they do not respond to calls or emails at a pace that workaholic Americans have come to expect from service providers. If you know that this might be a pain point for you, it might be good to consider an American wedding planner to be your liaison and advocate.

Photos by Orange Lemur. You should definitely hire them if you are marrying in Scotland. I looked at 20+ pages of photographers on Google and they were by far the best in Edinburgh!
