Citrus Inspired Bridal Shower: Pucker Up!
One of the greatest honors I’ve recently had was to be a bridesmaid for Kelly and Jeff, which also meant being able to help plan her bridal shower with the other bridesmaids. None of us were living in New York City, but Kelly and Jeff’s family lives in New Jersey, so we picked a restaurant in Brooklyn to have the brunch at as a spot where most folks could easily reach. This meant that I was traveling by train in the very early morning with a large suitcase full of honeycombs and other decor items to get there in time – but it was so worth it! The other bridesmaids plus Kelly’s aunt and a few friends arrived early and all pitched in to get us set up before guests began arriving!
But I’m getting ahead of myself. The first step (after picking the city and the date) was picking a pun, because Kelly loves puns, to base the theme around. After kicking many ideas around, Pucker Up was the clear winner, and we knew we wanted to pair it with a citrus-inspired color palette. We picked the standards lemon and lime, but we swapped out a traditional orange for a pinky grapefruit, which I think gives it a nice twist. Kelly asked us to reach out to Isabel at 9th Letter Press, someone who creates beautiful hand drawn stationery, and working with Isabel was a dream. We had a lot of needs, plus a short planning time frame, and she was able to make everything happen, from the 3 color letter press invitations to the gift bingo cards we used at the shower.
After working out the date, location (shout out to Michelle Edgemont for referring that restaurant!), colors and invitation, we turned our attention to shower activities. We knew that Kelly wouldn’t be super into games, but we thought that gift bingo was innocent enough, and wouldn’t really impact the vibe of the group. But we wanted to have some sort of DIY activity. Lauren, the maid of honor, came up with this idea that we would write messages on balloons, and we’d keep the balloons until the wedding, and then set them up in the getting ready suite the morning of Kelly and Jeff’s wedding.
Final details, such as getting some Doughnut Plant treats to round out the brunch menu and getting the perfect citrus tea towels for the bingo prizes, rounded out the planning for us. Kelly’s aunt put together some awesome favor bags and lemon drop boxes, which we were so pleased with. The best, though, was Kelly’s happiness that day, with these 24 fabulous ladies gathered to celebrate her. I’ll never forget it.
