Lessons Learned: Pinspot Lighting

Just because a venue has in-house directional lighting doesn’t mean it will have the same effect as professional pinspot lighting. Often times in-house lighting is either limited or can’t be moved exactly to where you need it to be. Investigate this ahead of time before being disappointed on the day of the event when all your gorgeous centerpieces are in the dark. Proper lighting will give your wedding venue and your wedding photos depth to the eye. You can spend all the money on flowers, but if you leave them in dark, you are doing a disservice to your floral investment.

Bonus tip: if you have tall centerpieces and the budget for a little more lighting, hit the florals that you invested so much in with a pin spot on each side.

The photo below also shows you the blue uplights on the walls in addition to the pinspots on all the centerpieces. I love the use of color here, but you don’t have to go so bold. If your wedding venue has a warm color on the walls, or lots of yellow-ish lights, I recommend a cool white uplight. If your venue’s walls are stark white, I recommend a warm white uplight.

Lessons Learned is a recurring series about the little and sometimes not so little things I learn at each and every wedding. Even after 14 years and 200+ weddings under my belt, I still learn something new at each one!
